Autumn lawn care will give your grass a good start in spring.
Well, this summer has definitely been a warm and dry one! Plenty of great weather to enjoy being in the garden. Chances are that your lawn has experienced quite a bit of wear and tear.
Now is the perfect time to give your lawn some TLC. By repairing and preparing your lawn now, it will stay healthy throughout the winter and be ready to SPRING into action next year!
Firstly, see what you’re dealing with.
Give your lawn a good raking to remove any fallen leaves, moss, dead grass and debris. This will allow more air and light in, as well as reducing any grass competitors!
Next, aerate your lawn by spiking every 15cm with a garden fork to improve drainage and root health.
If you still have plenty of moss, then treat your lawn with an Autumn Lawn Feed & Moss Killer. These can be applied between September and November. They target moss while strengthening the grass at the same time, helping your lawn cope with the winter conditions to come.
For bare patches, now is a great time to sow new lawn seed. Temperatures are cooler but the ground is still warm. Autumn rainfall will help with germination and cut down on your need to water. There are many types of lawn seed available, so make sure you choose one that suits your conditions to give it the best chances of success & a long and happy life. Be it damp or dry shade, hardwearing or dog patch resistant - there’s even a ‘smart’ lawn seed which can tailor germination & growth itself according to your conditions.
The best spring lawns really do start in autumn.
