Caring for your Christmas Tree
Whether it’s a table top tree or an 8 foot plus whopper, we all want that fresh festive greenery to last as long as possible.
Here’s a few tips for top Christmas Tree care:
If buying a cut tree, re-cut approx 1” off the bottom of your tree and stand it in a bucket of water outside for at least a day or two before bringing inside to decorate.
Ensure that your tree doesn’t dry out. Keep it in a container that holds water and treat it like a cut flower as it will always need a drink.
Once the netting is removed, allow the branches to settle and relax back to their natural shape if you can resist before decorating!
Keep away from draughts or heat sources like fires and radiators.
Fresh wreaths and arrangements
Many of the same principles apply to fresh festive wreaths and arrangements.…plants don’t like to be thirsty!
If your wreath is easy to detach, then consider soaking it base side down in a shallow watering tray periodically so that the moss can have a good drink and maintain a moist backing for the greenery. Let the excess water drain off before re-hanging the wreath!
If this isn’t practical, then use a water spray to spritz the moss and greenery on a regular basis.
How often you need to do this will depend on where your wreath is positioned and how much sun, heat & natural rainfall your wreath receives.
For fresh table arrangements, ensure that the floral foam doesn’t dry out and keep containers topped up with water.
Positioning your flowers and arrangements out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources will always help them stay vibrant for longer.
